To use the search function in Outlook 2007, you must install the Windows Desktop Search. As you know, when you install this component, the original search feature of Windows Explorer is replaced with WDS:
As described in this document, the WDS 3.01 version don't support group policy, so you can't customize the WDS as you wish!

To get the original search companion, you must use the Search Companion Fix. Just run it, uncheck the box and click Apply. Close all Explorer windows and try to do a search:
